Tech Nation: Peak at 10 Downing Street
By Jon Taylor on November 17, 2017The UK tech industry is booming right now, with companies across the country making some really exciting strides in all kinds of interesting areas.
Here at Peak we’re proud to be part of a sector that is making such a major contribution to the UK as a whole – one that is helping to drive innovation by enabling and accelerating the adoption of new and exciting technologies.
We were incredibly honoured, therefore, to be invited down to London to 10 Downing Street on Wednesday evening, where members of the Peak team were present at a reception and roundtable event in the company of the likes of Prime Minister Theresa May and Chancellor Philip Hammond.
Peak attendees were amongst a select group of leading politicians, key figures from the UK tech industry and entrepreneurs and innovators from across the country, for what was a celebration of the UK technology industry’s positive impact on the nation’s economy and society.
The Prime Minister herself began the evening by welcoming the huge contribution that the tech sector makes to the country.
A key focus of the evening was also placed on the exciting news that new investment will be placed into Tech City UK, allowing it to expand into a new nationwide network, Tech Nation. It is believed that this move has the potential to raise the profile of regional tech hubs and entrepreneurs outside of London.
We’re delighted to announce that @TechCityUK and @TechNorthHQ will become #TechNation – expanding our reach across the UK from a series of standalone tech hubs into one powerful network – aided by a further £21m funding over 4 years.
The roundtable event was closed by Culture Secretary Karen Bradley, who reaffirmed an ongoing commitment to supporting the tech sector and to maintaining this engagement through future meetings to ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of innovation and technology in the years ahead.
